Consider collecting classic staples to build your wardrobe. You know how it is said that “you can’t build a house on sandy land?” You can’t build a wardrobe with trendy items. It will fail you time and time again. You need a solid foundation of timeless staples that you can mix with trendier items to add your flavor or style. These staples are going to stay in your closet season after season, so consider buying quality. Over the next few months, we will lay out the timeless staples every wardrobe should have.
We begin with the classic trench coat. As I opened up my Harper's Baazar last night, the article of the trench coat caught my eye. It spoke of how Thomas Burberry invented gabardine, a waterproof twill, in 1879. Later, during World War I, where trench warfare was used to protect and shelter the troops from enemy's warfare, the trench coat was born. The troops were exposed to the elements and wore lightweight, breathable and waterproof khaki coats to blend into their surroundings. This utilitarian outerwear later became one of the most chic staple in ones wardrobe.
We have an updated classic trench coat from Marella, a division of Max Mara. Click here to view more details. The trench coat bridges seasons (when you don't need your heavy winter coat anymore, but you can't go without a little warmth and protection) and will stay in your closet for years to come!
